| The Haven Foundation - Our History |
Over 25 years ago Ben Wong and Jock McKeen co-founded The Haven Institute, on a belief that people can best learn, grow, answer their own questions, and make life-choices through a connection with others and a willingness to learn and to explore.
On January 1, 2004 ownership of The Haven Institute was transferred to The Haven Foundation. A non-profit charitable organization was established by Ben and Jock and a small number of forward thinking Haven supporters, to ensure that the Institute continues into perpetuity. The Haven Foundation - embodies their vision for an exceptional learning place for ALL people.
The Haven Institute is a unique learning centre that encourages and supports growth through personal development and professional training programs. Programs are centered on experiential learning to promote self-responsibility, direct communication, maintaining meaningful relationships and life fulfillment.
The Haven Institute has grown to be a leader in innovation across the international
field of personal development and professional training.
The Foundation Board began an important organizational restructuring process in 2006. The purpose is to ensure that The Haven remains a vital and sustainable entity for generations to come. The Board of Directors has set the guiding vision:
…to preserve the unique character of The Haven, while setting goals and priorities, to monitor productivity as a business within available resources. The goal is long term sustainability...so The Haven can realize its vision of helping all those who come here... to live their dreams.
In addition The Board gave direction to:
- prepare an Education Master Plan to articulate the renewal and expansion of the education programs along with an updated curriculum.
- develop a campus plan to ensure the buildings and facilities can sustain the education programs. Under the project name; MasterPlan 2010, conduct a review of the needs for facility renovations, repairs and/or building expansion, sensitive to the environment and to the community
